Realmuto requests trade from Marlins

MIAMI (AP) J.T. Realmuto wants to join the Miami Marlins' exodus.

The catcher requested a trade in the wake of the team's latest payroll purge, a person familiar with the situation said Monday. The person confirmed Realmuto's request to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Marlins didn't comment.

The person said Realmuto's agent told the Marlins trading the three-year veteran would make sense for the rebuilding team because of his high market value.

Moreland stays with BoSox on 2-year deal

BOSTON (AP) First baseman Mitch Moreland is remaining with the Boston Red Sox, agreeing to a $13 million, two-year contract.

The 32-year-old left-handed hitter batted .246 with 22 homers 79 RBIs in his first season with the team last year. His home run total was just behind Mookie Betts (24) and Hanley Ramirez (23) on the Red Sox, who hit an AL-low 168 for the season.

Padres sign RHP Lyles, designate P Wood

SAN DIEGO (AP) Right-hander Jordan Lyles and the San Diego Padres have agreed to a $1 million, one-year contract that includes a club option for 2019.

Lyles gets a $750,000 salary next year under the deal announced Sunday, and the Padres' option is for $3.5 million with a $250,000 buyout.

Cubs announce 2-year deal with Cishek

CHICAGO (AP) The Chicago Cubs finalized their $13 million, two-year contract with side-arming reliever Steve Cishek.

The 31-year-old right-hander gets $6.5 million in each of the next two seasons under the agreement announced Saturday. His 2019 salary could escalate by up to $1 million: $250,000 each for 30, 40, 45 and 50 games as a pitcher next year.

Strasburg mulls skipping All-Star games

WASHINGTON (AP) Stephen Strasburg is not so sure he wants to be an All-Star ever again.

The Washington Nationals right-hander said Sunday he is sure a change in routine for that event last season contributed to an arm injury that landed him on the disabled list, so he might just skip future Midsummer Classics.

Nats 2B Murphy hopeful of playing opener

WASHINGTON (AP) Nationals second baseman Daniel Murphy ambled around the team's annual fan festival with the aid of a pair of crutches and declined to offer any sort of estimate about the length of his recovery from right knee surgery.

"I don't want to put any timetables on it, because if you miss `em, you guys get really fishy when stuff like that happens," Murphy said Saturday, sitting on a chair during his session with reporters about eight weeks after the operation.
